The ice rink of the Zeller- lake served already as landing place. The charge for one minute flight was one (1) Schilling.

Mr.Georg Oberschneider, who was well-known for his flight-enthusiasm, engaged the pilot Mr.Hans Guritzer for sightseeing flights on lake Zell am See.

1900

Mr.Georg Oberscheider approached the municipality with a request for a lease meadow in Zellermoos – this marked the early beginning of a small “temporary airfield”.

First Glider starts from Schmittenhöhe.

Start of construction works of Aerodrome Zell am See in Zellermoos.

The Salzburger Volksblatt reported: “On Sunday, July 18th, for the first time the aerodrome Zell am See welcomed a registered passenger aircraft for landing”. Mister Miller from Chicago and his two companions were welcomed by Mayor Mr.Sebastian Hörl
and the Tourist Association Chairman Mr. Willy Schandlbauer as first flight passenger guests in Zell am See.

The NS-Air Corps / Group 17 (Ostmark) overtook the aerodrome Zell am See and started its expansion to a high alpine glider camp. The young generation pilots were trained in the “Reichssegelflugschule” (Reichs-Glider-School).

Foundation of “Luftsportverein Zell am See” . From now on, flying started to flourish.

The foundation stone for professional flight training was laid with the establishment of the “Alpine Gliding School” on May 18th.

Herbert Leitinger, Othmar Sochor, Ernst Leeb and Norbert Wisgrill started the company “Alpenflug Zell am See”.

We receive a flight safety notification from the state government to establish a new runway.

Foundation of “Association of Aerodrome Friends”. 1300 paying members exceed all expectations.

Foundation of “Flugplatz Zell am See GmbH”.

Start of construction works of the new runway 08/26.

After a difficult path, the new “runway 08/26” shall be opened on September 27th 1997 and a new, essential era of this traditional aerodrome begins. In 2024 the runway was  realigned to 07/25.

Contract signed with the Porsche Piëch family and construction works-groundbreaking of the new headquarters of aerodrome Zell am See.

1900

Completion of the new administration building of the airport operating company Zell am See in July 2002. Official opening ceremony on September 14th-15th.

After a successful agreement with the property owner, autumn 2017 marks the beginning of work on the remaining 120m for completion of the runway and on July 3d 2018 the runway with 780 meters was put into operation. At the same time the cloud break procedure LOWZ and the weather station are put into operation.
